TAKING A FIRST PERSON PERSPECTIVE – what it means and why it might be important

Biesta will focus on the following in his talk: «The rise of research in many professional fields, including education, is often presented as an empowering move to make professions more professional by providing a strong knowledge base. Whether this is a desirable development or not, is a complicated discussion. In this contribution I wish to focus on one particular aspect of this, namely the fact that research often introduced a third-person perspective, whereas one could argue that what is at stake in professions such as education are ultimately first-person matters. I will explore what the difference between the two perspectives amounts to, and what this means for the actual work and the role of research.»
